EV Charger Rebate in Manitoba
There is no Manitoba rebate for a home charger right now. Instead, Manitoba Hydro offers loans for home energy.
What Does Manitoba Offer?
Manitoba's EV rebate site opened July 1, 2024. Budget 2026 kept it running beyond its first end date of March 31, 2026. Purchases from August 1, 2023 onward may qualify if they meet the program rules.
A lease pays between $1,000 and $4,000 based on how long it runs. The price ceiling for the car is $70,000.
The federal rebate comes from the Electric Vehicle Affordability Program, which Transport Canada runs. You get it right at the dealership. The dealer lowers the price by that amount and collects the money back, so you file nothing. What you receive depends on the year the dealer sends in the eligibility assessment. That assessment is the dealer confirming you and the car qualify. The model year and the delivery date do not matter.
Here is what the federal program pays, by year:
- 2026: $5,000 on an electric car, $2,500 on a plug-in hybrid
- 2027: $4,000 and $2,000
- 2028: $3,000 and $1,500
- 2029: $3,000 and $1,500
- 2030: $2,000 and $1,000
- 2031: $2,000 and $1,000
Shorter federal leases get less. In 2026, a lease of 48 months or more gets the whole amount. At 36 months you get 75%, or $3,750 if the car is fully electric. A 24-month lease brings 50%, and a 12-month lease 25%.
Who Is Eligible in Manitoba?
To get the Manitoba rebate, the car has to appear on Manitoba's eligible list, come from a Manitoba dealer whether bought or leased, and cost no more than $70,000. Teslas and China-built cars bought after March 19, 2025 no longer qualify for the Manitoba rebate.
For the federal rebate, the final price cannot pass $50,000. Cars made in Canada are exempt from that limit. The car needs to be new, or a demonstrator with under 10,000 km. It also must be built in Canada or in a country that has a free-trade agreement with Canada.
Hybrids you cannot plug in get nothing from the federal program. Each person can claim one federal rebate across the five years.
How to Apply for the Manitoba Rebate
You apply online through Manitoba Public Insurance once you have bought or leased the car.
- Pick a car that shows up on both lists and stays under the price caps.
- Buy or lease the car through a Manitoba dealer, and the dealer takes the federal rebate off the price.
- Go online through Manitoba Public Insurance to claim the provincial rebate.
Send the short form before you buy. Nearby dealers will email what they charge and which rebates apply, so you can compare your options.
Pricier Models, Including Teslas
You will not find the 2027 Tesla Model 3 on the federal list. The 2026 Model Y RWD is the only Tesla that gets the federal rebate, bringing it from $49,990 to $44,990. Manitoba's rebate does not cover Teslas bought after March 19, 2025, so that $5,000 is all you would get on one.
A few bigger models sit above $50,000 and miss the federal list, so the federal rebate does not apply. Two cases in point: the Kia EV9, priced $59,995, and the Honda Prologue, priced $59,990.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Canada still have an EV rebate?
It does. Ottawa's program opened February 16, 2026 and ends March 31, 2031. It took over from iZEV, which shut down March 31, 2025. The federal program had $1.92 billion of its $2.275 billion left as of October 1, 2026.
Does Ottawa give a tax credit for electric cars?
It does not. What the federal government offers is a rebate the dealership takes off the price.
The federal rebate on an electric car drops by $1,000 on January 1, 2027, so now is the time to get up to $9,000 on an electric car. Send the short form, and dealers near you will email their price and the rebates you qualify for.
Does Tesla qualify for the EV rebate in Manitoba?
One Tesla does: the 2026 Tesla Model Y RWD lists at $49,990, just under the $50,000 cap, so it comes to $44,990 in Manitoba after the federal $5,000. Manitoba Electric Vehicle Rebate Program leaves Tesla out. The Model 3 is not on Transport Canada's list, so it earns nothing.
