Yukon's own EV rebate ended on March 31, 2026, but the federal rebate can still cut as much as $5,000 from a new electric car, right at the dealer, with no forms for you to file. The full $5,000 is only here for 2026, and on January 1, 2027 it drops to $4,000, so send the short form now and dealers near you will email their price and the rebates you qualify for. EV Charger Rebate in Yukon

Yukon's home charger rebates stopped on March 31, 2026 at the same time as its other electric transportation rebates. Canada has no federal EV tax credit, since the federal support comes as the rebate the dealer takes off your price.

Charger rebates in every province

What changed, and what is still there?

Up until March 31, 2026, Yukon gave $5,000 toward a new electric car. That was the day its electric transportation rebates closed, and the home charger rebates closed with them.

Bought a car on or before March 31, 2026? Yukon still accepts claims for one year from your purchase date, so you can still claim that $5,000 if your year has not run out.

Yukon's rebate is gone, but the federal rebate is still available. Transport Canada runs it under the name Electric Vehicle Affordability Program, which launched on February 16, 2026 and ends on March 31, 2031. An older federal program, iZEV, closed on March 31, 2025, and EVAP stepped into its place.

How You Get the Federal Rebate

You do not file anything. The dealer confirms you and the vehicle are eligible, subtracts the rebate from the price at purchase or lease, then collects the money from Transport Canada.

What counts is the year the dealer submits your eligibility assessment, not the car's model year or when it's delivered. If your dealer submits your eligibility in 2026, you get the 2026 amount, whatever the car's model year or delivery date. Each person can get one rebate during the five years the program runs.

Rules a Car Must Meet

  • Battery-electric cars and plug-in hybrids can qualify when they pass every check below. Regular hybrids never do.
  • The deal's final price has to be $50,000 or under. Canadian-built cars are exempt from the price cap.
  • The vehicle needs to come from Canada or from a country that has a free-trade agreement with Canada.
  • It has to be new, but a demonstrator with under 10,000 km is fine.
  • It must be highway-capable and weigh under 8,500 pounds.

Only one Tesla appears on the list: the 2026 Model Y RWD, priced at $49,990 before the rebate and $44,990 after.

Rebate Amounts for Each Year

The rebate gets smaller over the years, and plug-in hybrids get half what a fully electric car gets.

In 2026, a battery-only car earns $5,000 and a plug-in hybrid earns $2,500. The following year, 2027, those amounts drop to $4,000 and $2,000. For 2028 and 2029 the figures hold steady at $3,000 and $1,500, and for the final two years, 2030 and 2031, they come down to $2,000 and $1,000.

The full $5,000 only lasts through December 31, 2026. The electric-car rebate drops to $4,000 in 2027, and signing in 2026 alone does not secure the higher amount.

Leasing an Electric Car

With a lease, the rebate you get is scaled to how long the lease runs. These amounts are for 2026.

A lease of 48 months or longer earns the full rebate, which means $5,000 on a battery-only car and $2,500 on a plug-in hybrid. A 36-month lease gets three-quarters of that, or $3,750 and $1,875. At 24 months you receive half, $2,500 and $1,250, and a 12-month lease gets a quarter: $1,250 and $625.

Common Questions

Does Tesla qualify for the EV rebate in Yukon?

One Tesla does: the 2026 Tesla Model Y RWD lists at $49,990, just under the $50,000 cap, so it comes to $44,990 in Yukon after the federal $5,000. The Model 3 is not on Transport Canada's list, so it earns nothing.
