Rebate Amounts in Quebec
What you get depends on the vehicle and on whether it is new or used. Only new cars qualify federally, and a demonstrator that has travelled under 10,000 km still counts as new.
| Vehicle type | Quebec (2026) | Federal (2026) | Combined |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fully electric (new) | $2,000 | $5,000 | $7,000 |
| Plug-in hybrid (new) | $1,000 at most | $2,500 | Up to $1,000 plus $2,500 |
A used electric car gets $1,000 from Quebec. The federal rebate is for new cars only. A regular hybrid that you cannot plug in gets nothing from the federal program. Where the numbers come from: Quebec's 2026 rebate page, Quebec's used-vehicle page, and Transport Canada.
How the Rebate Works in Quebec
You do not fill in any paperwork yourself. The dealer takes both rebates off your purchase or lease price, then recovers the federal share from Transport Canada.
Quebec goes by the date the car is registered, not when you placed the order. Order in the fall but register in January 2027 and the provincial money is gone.
2026: Roulez Vert's Final Year
Roulez vert stops on December 31, 2026. The federal rebate keeps going, but from January 1, 2027, an electric car gets $4,000 instead. Ottawa's figure depends on when the dealer files that eligibility check. That is the review the dealer runs to make sure you and the car both qualify. Handle everything in 2026 and a new electric car can still reach $7,000 in total. If the car is registered in 2027 and the dealer files its check in 2027, Quebec pays nothing and the federal rebate falls to $4,000.
Starting in 2027, Quebec will also bill electric car owners $125 a year. To get up to $7,000, the car must be registered in 2026, and the dealer must submit the federal eligibility check in 2026. Use the short form today and nearby dealers will email you what they charge plus the rebates that fit your situation.
Which Cars Qualify?
Quebec only pays on cars with an MSRP listed at $65,000 or under. MSRP stands for the manufacturer's suggested retail price, the sticker price before any deal. The vehicle also has to appear on Quebec's eligible new vehicle list.
Ottawa is tougher on pricing. Its cap looks at the final transaction value, the cost of the whole deal, which has to be $50,000 or under, though a car built in Canada has no price cap. It must also be built in Canada or in a country Canada has a free-trade deal with, come in under 8,500 pounds, and be able to handle highway driving. Transport Canada
These rules leave some popular models without federal money. Take the 2026 Hyundai IONIQ 5 Preferred with RWD and the Long Range pack: it stickers at $55,499 and is not on the federal list. The rear-drive 2026 Kia EV9 Light carries a sticker of $59,995 and is not on the federal list either. On the federal list, the one Tesla is the 2026 Model Y RWD, which works out to $44,990 once the federal rebate is applied.
Common Questions
Do Québec and other provinces offer EV rebates?
They do. Right now only Quebec and Manitoba add a provincial rebate to the federal one. Everywhere else in Canada, including British Columbia, buyers get the federal rebate alone.
Will a lease bring the full rebate?
For the full federal rebate, the lease must run at least 48 months. Shorter leases receive less. Take 2026: leasing an electric car for 36 months pays $3,750, for 24 months $2,500, and for 12 months $1,250.
How many rebates can one person claim from Ottawa?
One person can claim the federal rebate once during the program's five-year life, which ends March 31, 2031. A business can claim as many as ten.
Does Ottawa offer an EV tax credit?
No. There is no such tax credit at the federal level. Ottawa's help comes as a rebate the dealer takes off the price.
Does Tesla qualify for the EV rebate in Quebec?
One Tesla does: the 2026 Tesla Model Y RWD lists at $49,990, just under the $50,000 cap, so it comes to $42,990 in Quebec after the federal $5,000 and $2,000 from Roulez vert. The Model 3 is not on Transport Canada's list, so it earns nothing.
